Let me start off by saying I truly have the best boyfriend erm... Fiancé in the world. Saying that sounds so cliché, but I only know love to be one thing from Josh, and that is absolute unconditional. When you have that feeling and you know it’s right and you can’t imagine your life with anyone else (and the thought of it is a little nauseating) then it’s love, and I love josh more than I can even put into words. Though we’ve known it since we were 15 years old, I can “officially” say that I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with him. I’m ready for the journey to begin.
Today is Thursday, April 7, 2011. For the past couple of weeks I’ve had that sneaking suspicion that something was going to happen, maybe it was the hints he was dropping or maybe the super secretiveness of the day, or maybe today I just felt that something was happening. I’ve known that josh has had the ring for about a month and a half, but that didn’t bother me one bit. We’re horrible at keeping secrets from each other so we tell each other everything, and one night he felt the need to blurt it out. So cute.
I take a shower, do my hair, and run downstairs to open the front door and see what it feels like outside. Feels like an amazing day to me. I check weather.com, because I’m obsessed and have been itching for a nice day to get out of the house since we got back from our spring break trip to Florida. 63 degrees, not bad. Jeans and a t-shirt out to do it!
Josh was on his computer downstairs and I asked him what we’d be doing for the day, he had a piece of paper on his desk he was writing on and when I turned to corner to enter the room he quickly changed what he was doing. An ounce of “what’s going on?” went through my head, but I told myself not to overthink anything, just go with the flow. Josh told me he wasn’t quite sure yet, he was still looking at places to go, or what to do, but he’d be ready soon so I could go do whatever I needed to finish getting ready and we’d be on our way.
So I went upstairs and sat on my computer at watched a funny music video on Charlie Sheen’s recent interview. I swear I watched it like 15 times. Yeah, about 15 seems about right. Josh came to get me and I told him he HAD to watch this video before we went anywhere, so we did and we laughed. He then asked me if I wouldn’t mind going to get some subway for lunch. So, I got my purse, grabbed my phone and got us some subs. I drove home, came inside and figured I’d see josh at his computer, but he wasn’t there. I looked everywhere around the house, but nowhere to be found.
I eventually found a note that read: (ALL clues are song lyrics to favorite bands (mostly Bright Eyes and The Beatles as well as The Zombies!))
“Dear Fawn,
I love you more than you will ever know. You are the light of my life. My ‘raison d’etre’. I cannot wait to see all the amazing places our lives will take us. Please follow these 8 following clues so that I may take the next step on the journey of our life together (call if you can’t get one)” “P.S. Everything except me can be found in this room alone.”
First Clue: “All the way home held you CAMERA like a bible, Just wishing so bad that it held some kind of truth”
So I scurry around… obviously since camera is highlighted, it must have something to do with my camera. Where the HECK IS my camera? And which ONE?! I have about 10 different kinds of cameras, so I search them all. I find my DSLR on my sewing desk and underneath is a second clue!
Second Clue: “She’s got a TICKET TO RIDE. She’s got a TICKET TO RIDE, and she don’t care.”
I was absolutely stumped. Though grateful that Josh chose to quote my favorite Beatles song ever, I didn’t want to call him because at this point I am shaking like a leaf, excited, and nervous. So I text him and say: “I’m stuck on the ticket one… lol ;P” I get a text back a minute later saying, “ Ticket to Ride. Hrm. Sound like a board game you like. Hehe.”
So after smacking myself on the head, I say “of course!” I just rearranged all of our board games, and I know right where that one is. So I find the third clue.
Third Clue: A MIRROR, and a MIRROR is all it can be. A reflection of something we’re missing.”
So I scurry over to my mirror, meanwhile my mom is calling me and I don’t know what to do. Should I answer it and tell her? NO, I’ll definitely call after. For some reason I knew what was going on but didn’t believe it, so I figured just encase this was something fun he was doing for our day out, I would wait and see what happens. Where was I going again? Oh right, to the mirror. I scurry over and find the fourth clue.
Fourth Clue: “And these CLOCKS keep unwinding and completely ignore all of these things we hate or adore.” I run to the alarm clock and find the fifth clue.
Fifth Clue: Once the page a CALENDAR is turned it’s no more.”
I find the clue in my new Twilight Calendar that my sister Billie Jo got me and read the sixth clue.
Sixth Clue: “A Time to rend, a time to SEW, A time of love, a time of hate.”
Skipping to my sewing table drawer that was half open (which I never leave open and was one of the first things I noticed when I walked in) I find the second to last clue.
Clue Seven: It’s SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND, it’s getting very near the end.”
Now I had trouble with this one. I have a SGT. Pepp’s record album so I thought it was tucked in there.. it wasn’t. so knowing everything was coming to an end I needed to find it, and FAST. I text josh: “sgt peppers?” He texts back, “Look near the big window, silly”
Oh, RIGHT! Duh! There’s a huge Sgt Peppers photo over there. LOL! (Can you tell I wasn’t “with” it?)
Under the Sgt Pepp’s photo is a final note:
“This is the final clue my dear: “Big man, waling in the PARK, wigwam, frightened of the dark.” “That’s a bit vague, so my second clue is that I’m at the park that many of our bike rides have taken us to (not our hiking park). I’ll be waiting at the white gazebo.”
Okay! Freak out time, I may have tricked myself into thinking nothing was happening, but now it was time to GET to that gazebo. I’ve never been more frazzled in my life. I grabbed EVERYTHING! The subway, my coat (?) ALL of the paper clues, my purse, who even knows what else. I was on a mission to find my future husband. So I run to my car, and drive to the park. I was laughing the whole way there, more out of nerves than anything. I told myself to pull it together because I didn’t want to walk up to josh and be laughing hysterically at a precious moment.
There were tons of people in the surrounding areas. A bunch of soccer moms with their babies at the playground, two old men playing basketball, a family taking a walk, and a blur of people which I don’t really remember in the tennis courts. I started to walk down the pathway and came around the corner. I saw the big white gazebo with a guy standing in it looking like he was fixing something. I was utterly confused because as I walked closer there was a guy fixing the gazebo. I looked around for Josh and saw him sitting on a park bench; the closer I got the bigger the smile got.
Walking towards someone when a proposal is about to happen and you know it, it pretty scary. Not bad scary, but nerve wrecking I suppose. I thought I was going to cry. So I make my way to him and stand there. We both start laughing and he says, “Well I think you know what this is about” and I shyly say “yeah.” So he asked me to sit down and he starts telling me how much he loves me and how the last 7.5 years have been the best. I can’t really remember what else was said, but I know you’ll have that. I am sure Josh remembers his speech, so I can edit this part later. He told me he loved me and said, “So, I want to know if you will marry me?” As he opened the box I said “yes” I had to confirm with Josh that I did say yes, because it’s all a big blur right now, and I gave him the biggest hug and kiss in the world and started crying, followed by me saying, “I knew I was going to cry when this happened.” He put the ring on my finger and Oh my gosh, I love it! It’s exactly what I wanted, but BETTER! It’s beautiful and so is Josh.
We sat on the bench for about 10 more minutes and were in disbelief. We kept calling each other Fiance, and were talking about how weird for the past 7.5 years we were a dating couple and now we’re engaged Fiance’s. Something we are definitely still taking in. It all has felt like a big, amazing dream!
